Cracking Sound

Hanna Kaihlanen
Hanna Kaihlanen’s vision discovers a fantastic dimension that intersects with the real within the bleak Nordic landscape of Finland, and her expressive editing often loses track of the distinction between the two. The film is inspired by ecological issues and questions humanity’s claims to control and overcome nature: the director follows the chaotic logic of wildlife, like the film’s subject who tracks wild elk.

Hanna Kaihlanen is a filmmaker based in Finland, working in both documentary and experimental film. She combines raw found footage with poetic imagery in her work, usually addressing global issues from an outsider’s perspective. Her earlier work has been screened and garnered awards at various film festivals, both local and international. Cracking Sound is her BA graduation film for the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
