Insolite

Maya Schweizer
Is Mount Vesuvius alive or is it fear that creates the illusion of underground tremors? A series of images from the present day and the last eruption in 1944 mingle together. It becomes an enumeration of places, under surveillance and covered in lava.

Born in 1976 in Paris, Maya studied at the Aix-Marseille University, the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB) and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). Schweizer works with different media, directing her focus towards experimental short films. She has had numerous solo exhibitions and showed her works in group exhibitions and at biennials. Her videos have been selected for several festivals and events, including Forum Expanded at the Berlinale, the Vancouver International Film Festival and the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. To date, four monographs on her work have been published.
