Oleksiy Radynski
The work of Oleksiy Radynski is reminiscent of Chantal Akerman’s films, offering a kind of antithesis to the urban symphony genre: instead of elegant views and depictions of city life, his camera studies the underside of the metropolis. This is what Kyiv looks like from a train window, or a space full of railway tracks, fences and warehouses. The leitmotif of the film is a UFO-like building that appears again and again, a landmark of Soviet modernism now facing the threat of being redeveloped into a shopping mall.

Oleksiy Radynski is a director and social commentator. His films have been shown at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (London), DOK Leipzig, e-flux (New York) and S A V V Y Contemporary (Berlin) among other festivals and venues. He is a fellow at  BAK, basis voor actuele kunst in Utrecht for 2019–2020.
