All the Fires the Fire / Oles oi Foties i Fotia

Efthimis Kosemund Sanidis
Mythological narratives bleed into the scenes of a down-to-earth masculine world of Greek hunters. In Efthimis Kosemund Sanidis’s work, attention to the texture of life intertwines with archetypes (brothers feud, men compete in tests of strength and bird hunting) and celestial signs. But are they really signs? As in the prose of Julio Cortázar, from whom the title is borrowed, the workings of the mysterious forces behind the facade of everyday life remain only vaguely discernible.

Efthimis Kosemund Sanidis is a Greek/German writer and director who studied Informatics Engineering and then Contemporary Arts at Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains in France. His films have won acclaim at international festivals including Venice, Locarno and Sarajevo, and art venues such as Forum des images, Centre Pompidou and Haus der Kulturen der Welt. His latest film, All the Fires the Fire (2019), will premiere in the Pardi di domani programme of the Locarno Film Festival. He is currently developing his debut feature film.
